Krka Waterfalls from Makarska: Is the Long Day Trip Worth It?

The short answer

It is worth it if waterfalls and a historic old town are what you want from a day and you accept that a large part of it is spent in a coach. The trips from Makarska run 8 to 10 hours. The Krka Waterfalls and Šibenik day trip from Makarska Riviera is €42.30 for 8 hours, 4.7 stars from 295 reviews. If you have only a few days on the coast and no urge for a long outing, there are closer things to do, and we say which below.

The three trips on offer

TripPriceRating · reviewsDuration
From Makarska Riviera: Krka Waterfalls & Šibenik Day Trip€42.304.7 · 2958 hours
Makarska: Krka National Park Day Trip with Šibenik Visit€454.2 · 1919 hours
Makarska: Krka Waterfalls w/tickets & Sibenik Walking Tour€985.0 · 29 to 10 hours

The first two are priced within €3 of each other, but their ratings are half a point apart. The third is more than twice the price, has only two reviews, and says in its description that the tickets are included and that Šibenik is a walking tour with a local guide. That is the clue to the main question of the day.

Check whether the park ticket is in the price

Krka National Park charges its own entrance fee, and in the summer months it is a large share of a day trip’s price. The fee depends on the season and changes, so we give no figure here; look it up on the park’s website. What matters is whether your trip includes it. The €98 listing says so in its description. For the cheaper two, read the “includes” and “excludes” lists on the booking page before you pay. If the ticket is extra, the trip costs a good deal more than the headline price.

What the day looks like

The trips are 8 to 10 hours long and combine the drive up the coast, a visit to the waterfalls and a stop in Šibenik, so a good part of the day is spent travelling. The listings describe cascading waterfalls and emerald pools at the park and the historic streets of Šibenik. They do not state how long you get at each place, so ask or read the programme: the time on foot at the falls will be a fraction of the day.

Do not plan on swimming at the main falls. Swimming at Skradinski buk has been banned since 2021, so a swim stop on a standard itinerary is not something to expect. Ask the operator which parts of the park the programme covers.

Who it suits

  • Nature lovers with one free day who will accept a long drive for a landscape that is different from the sea and Biokovo.
  • Visitors who like towns as well as scenery, because Šibenik gives the day a second half.
  • People who dislike driving. A coach removes the motorway from your day.

Who should choose something else

  • Small children and anyone who gets travel-sick. Eight or nine hours with long coach stretches is hard. Look at a boat trip or a shorter outing instead.
  • Anyone who wants to swim. Many boat trips from Makarska build in swim stops; this day trip will not, at the main falls.
  • Heat-averse travellers in July and August. The park is largely open-air and walking-based.
  • Anyone short of time. With a few days in Makarska, the Skywalk takes 3 hours, not 9.

Tips for the day

  1. Book with a clear picture of the programme. Check which sections of the park are visited and how long you get at the falls.
  2. Bring a swimsuit only if the listing mentions a swim stop. Otherwise it is not guaranteed.
  3. Wear comfortable shoes. The park is walked on boardwalks and paths.
  4. Check the pick-up point on the booking page, and how early it is.

Our recommendation

Choose the 8-hour trip at €42.30 as the baseline and confirm the park ticket is covered, or add it to the cost yourself. The 9-hour trip scores lower and lasts an hour longer. The €98 option makes sense only if you want the guided old-town walk and a clearly stated ticket, and with two reviews you are buying on trust.
